It came to my attention just now that our territorial waters claims date back from quite some time ago and may now need reviewing. Here is a map showing our territorial waters in dark blue: I dare say a few nations who weren't there when the claims were made might take issue with it . We do have a few options however: 1) Keep the current claims but grant freedom of passage to nations who now exist within them. 2) Alter the claim to accomodate new nations. 3) Reduce territorial waters to a distance of 20 miles from our land territory with the option of claiming an "exclusive economic zone" on territorial waters we'd be giving up. Thoughts etc?

It would make the most sense to retain the claims, given that we apparently have colonial outposts along the entire stretch of river. But it would certainly be advisable to grant passage to some friendly nations, like Uantir and whoever the white people are (Interland?).

The white nation is Beaugium who we never hear from but apparently who exist. I was thinking perhaps we could run the river like the Suez canal?

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that.

It's a break-off from Lovely and doesnt really do much it seems. Eastern ocia seem happy enough for us to continue to claim in on the condition that they can move freely up and down the river.

I agree with Ryan, I say let the following nations have free use of the river;
Ocia Federation (for now) Uantir Beaugium Stormark

Why Stormark?

Well they have land the south of the river and I don't wish to carry a grudge.

But we must ask ourselves, do they actually have a reason to go up the river? i can see no reason why they should need to

Militarily no, they have no reason to go north. But for trading purposes it would make sense to take the shortest route and thus they're certain to have some civilian vessels going north and through our territorial waters.
