To keep the military personnel stationed in the southern provinces busy while they prevent looting in the rural areas effected by the black death His Majesty's government has compiled the following list of tasks for them. These measures should not only keep the troops busy, but also make life easier for the residents when they return.
Hopefully these measures will make life easier for our fine farmers
- Irrigation ditches: large ditches, around 10 meters accross and 8 meters deep are to constructed from the western border of West Kesteven and joined to the River Hamble in the east. To allow maximum flow of water each ditch is to be joined to a large ditch running north to south. The ditches are to be joined to the River Hamble by Sluice gates which will be built into the existing levees which run the length of the rivers western bank to hold the water back. To make transport easy wooden bridges are to be built over the irrigation ditches in place of previous roads, however it should be noted these bridges cannot hold any great weight.
- Grain stores: large concrete grain stores are to be built on the northern banks of the irrigation ditches, lying to the side of the wooden bridges. These stores will double up as tornado shelters for civilians and as such will be built out of reinforced concrete for maximum protection. The stores will consist of a subterranean floor where grain may be stored and also a floor on ground level where civilians can shelter in severe weather; hatches are to be included in the walls on this level to allow citizens to look outside to check it's safe before leaving.
- Improved fencing: It has been noted in the past that grazing animals occaisionally destroy crops by breaking through existing fencing. Therefore all existing fences are to be replaced with new barbed wire constructions which will keep better control of the animals.
Hopefully these measures will make life easier for our fine farmers
